About Us

Our Story

Tessera started with a kitchen table covered in mismatched tiles. Years ago, we were renovating a small apartment and fell down a rabbit hole researching tessellated patterns — the way individual pieces, each ordinary on their own, come together to form something whole. That idea stuck with us. We realized most home goods stores were selling us either soulless mass-market basics or unattainable design-magazine pieces, and nothing in between felt honest. So in 2026, we started Tessera to fill that gap: thoughtfully made objects for the homes people actually live in.

We believe a home is assembled, not purchased in a single trip. It's built piece by piece, over years, by people who know their own taste even when they can't quite name it yet. That's why we work directly with independent makers and small manufacturers who care as much about how a ceramic mug feels in your hand as how it photographs. We refuse to sell anything we wouldn't put in our own homes — which means fewer trends, more materials that age well, and prices that respect both the maker's craft and your budget.

We serve people who are furnishing their first real apartment, finally replacing the hand-me-downs, or just done settling for "good enough." Whether you're outfitting an entire room or hunting for the one bowl that finally feels right, we're here to help you build a home that looks like you — one piece at a time.
